payment and fees

I am happy to discuss rates and payment during your phone consultation.  With that being said, I would never charge more than I personally would be willing to pay as a patient. Please read my explanation of why I feel it is best to not use insurance for your mental health care here.

keeleyI accept payments by cash, check and credit/debit card. I have recently switched my credit card processor to IvyPay, a fully HIPAA-compliant service designed for therapists. Payment is expected to be paid at each visit, unless you have worked out a special arrangement with me.

Why Would I not use my Insurance?

I understand the desire to utilize your insurance for counseling services.  I do want you to know, however, that there are both negatives and positives of using insurance for counseling. The obvious positive is that the out of pocket cost is lower when you go to a provider who is in-network with your insurance. You may ask, ‘then why wouldn’t I want to utilize a counselor who is in-network?’ As an adjunct to my explanation of why it is not adviseable, I recommend you to visit the article, “What are the concerns for using health insurance for therapy” by Judy C. Roberts, MA:

Please contact me directly regarding fees. I have a very reasonable standard fee schedule as well as a sliding scale, in the event of economic hardship. “Packages” are available for new patients only.
